Create Your Odoo Database

By the end of this lesson you will have your own Odoo database, with every app this course needs.

Do this on the first day of the week

Go to odoo.com and start a free trial. You will get your own database at an address like yourname.odoo.com, with full administrator access.

Read this part carefully. Odoo's permanently free plan gives you one app only. This course needs several, so you will be on the multi-app trial — and that trial expires after 15 days.

What that means for you:

• Start it on day one of this week, not when you feel ready. The clock runs whether you use it or not.
• Screenshot your work as you go. Every configuration screen, every order, every report. When the trial ends, the database goes and your evidence goes with it.
• Keep those screenshots in a folder. They are what you will show in your final report, and they are what your mentor reviews.

Apps to install

From the Apps menu, install:

• Sales — quotations and sales orders
• Purchase — buying from suppliers
• Inventory — stock and warehouses
• Accounting (or Invoicing) — customer invoices and vendor bills
• Website and eCommerce — your online shop
• Employees, Time Off, Payroll — the HR apps

Install them all now. Installing an app later can change menus you have already learned, which is confusing while you are still finding your way.

What you are going to build

Over this week you will set up a small trading company from nothing: its details, its website, its products, buying stock, receiving it, selling it to a customer, delivering it, invoicing it, and then its people.

You are not following a tour. You are building a working company, and every step depends on the one before it.

• Database created and you can log in as administrator
• All the apps above installed
• You have noted the date your trial expires
• You have made a folder for screenshots
